Your Infants First Dental Visit

First dental visit by 1st Birthday! The American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry (AAPD) recommends that a child’s first dental visit occur at 12 months of age (or 6 months after the first tooth comes into the mouth, whichever occurs first). During your child’s first visit, the pediatric dentist will review your child’s medical history and the staff will introduce you to the office and dental team. Dr. Jackson will perform a comprehensive head and neck examination which will be followed by an evaluation of your child’s teeth, gums, and bite. If Dr. Jackson decides dental x-rays are necessary, they will be taken with state-of-the-art digital technology. If your child requires additional dental treatment, those services will be scheduled for a next visit.

We encourage mom and dad to be present with their child during their entire first visit. This will allow you the opportunity to meet the dental team as well as allow you and your child to grow comfortable with the office. We will teach you and your child how to best care for their teeth and gums, provide advice on healthy eating habits and answer any specific questions you may have. We explain how cavities are caused, what we can do to prevent them and how your children can help fight gum and tooth disease by brushing properly. All information is provided in an age- appropriate manner to help nurture and encourage your child.

Happy Brushing,
